Trailrunning Cadences

Following Drill, I drove to Hellman Wilderness Park and had a beautiful forty minute trail run. I’m not the best long distance runner but chanting running cadences kept me going.

Plan, Wish, and Left: Mount Whitney

Date: 30 Friday May 2014

Destination: Mount Whitney

Miles: 22 Round Trip

Time: Two nights

Temperature: 12-23 Degrees Fahrenheit

Wind: 25mph

Planning: Ariel 65 Osprey Backpack, Rei Passage 1 Tent, down sleeping bag 19 degrees, Rei Trekker 1.76 self- inflating sleeping pad 14 oz (lb), LEKI Superlock and lightweight trekking poles, crampons, Katadyn Hiker Pro Microfilter Water Filtration System backcountry series 11 oz, Patagonia Long Sleeve (base layer), Patagonia long pants (base layer), high school sweat shirt, North Face fleece jacket, jacket, Patagonia wind breaker, sock liners, two pairs of wool socks, glove liners, all weather gloves, 3 pairs underwear, 4 pairs of socks, hiking boots, sunglasses, Harley Davidson sun hat, hair ties, toothbrush, toothpaste, water purifier, Jet Boil Personal cooking system, Jet boil Jet Power (Propane) 8.11 oz,  one lighter, wind breaker, black diamond head light, pocket knife, 3 nalgene water bottles, spoon, fork, 7 tuna fish packets, trail mix, banana chips, dried pineapple, cyto max, 2 dehydrated dinners and 2 dehydrated breakfasts.

Didn’t Need: Glove liner. So much extra tuna fish packets, lol.

Should have brought: Ice axe which I left in the car thinking I would not need it. Day pack.

I was so happy that I brought the jackets that I did. It was well worth it. I made the trip with an older guy around late 40s early 50s who I met a week ago at an adventure store! We decided to make the trip with a night in between for altitude adjustment. A mistake we made was not brining a day pack. As a result we had to bring our big backpacking backpacks to carry jackets, water, food etc. . . . It was a lot of extra weight that didn’t need to be.
